The breakwater protects the Port of Victoria from heavy waves. It is a HUGE masonry structure constructed on a foundation made entirely of stone blocks. The Egyptians would be PROUD of us!!
The breakwater has no railing, but it is wide enough to provide a safe walk all the way out to the lighthouse on the end.
Access is limited only by a gate (seen below) that can be closed after sunset and during "heavy" weather.
Even the "graffiti" is pretty in Victoria, BC. These Orcas are the gatekeepers to the entrance to the breakwater.
These octopi guard the stairway that leads down to the beach. From here you can also gain access to the lower tiers of the breakwater.
