The Platters was a Rhythm and Blues group that formed in 1953. Their first hit, "Only You", in 1955, was written by their manager. Their first number ONE hit was "The Great Pretender" later that same year. Many of their other hits were songs that were previously recorded by the Ink Spots and the Mills Brothers. The Platters recorded "My Prayer" in 1956 and it occupied the number ONE position on the charts for five weeks. | ||
