Why is my radiator pressurized?

Dear Meli,
I have an early styled 'B' - a 1942. I was wondering, my B has a pressurized radiator. Is that correct?

Hi ya...
Yes, because of copper shortages, the radiators made during the World War II were made from steel instead of copper, so they were pressurized to increase the heat transfer efficiency. This happened again during the Korean War in 1952. At THAT point, the waterpump was added to the Model B to increase efficiency. It is unusual to find a steel radiator that is still functional. Most of them rusted and leaked, and were later replaced with copper and brass ones.
